WAIHEKE FIRST NATIONAL M.R.E.I.N.Z. Licensed Real Estate Agent REAA 2008

Waiheke Island is a magical island paradise in the treasure trove of Auckland's Hauraki Gulf islands. Rich in natural beauty, Waiheke's coastline unfolds to reveal stunning white and golden sand beaches rocky foreshores and estuaries rich in native birdlife. Stands of lush sub tropical forest are bounded by farmland and vineyards.

With an area of 92 square kilometres, including 40 km of beaches, it is the second largest of the Hauraki Gulf islands, the most populated and most accessible with regular ferry and air services.
Waiheke is a world away from the rush of business and commerce although only 35 minutes by ferry from downtown Auckland, 17 km distant.

The pace of life is gentle with a climate that is generally warmer than Auckland with less humidity and rain and more sunshine which, among other things, make it an excellent grape growing area producing some of New Zealand's top red wines.

There is a wide range of activities available to explore the island and its surrounding waters. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the environment while respecting and protecting the native flora and fauna including the locals.

The island is proud of its tradition of attracting a wide range of artistic and creative people and those simply looking for lifestyle alternatives.

The local community is interesting, varied and very friendly with around 7,000 residents, including a large group of Auckland commuters. The island's population swells to over 30,000 on holidays and during special events such as the annual Waiheke Jazz Festival and the Wharf to Wharf Half Marathon.

GETTING TO WAIHEKE
Passenger ferries leave from downtown Auckland, with around 12 sailing's daily for a 35 minute journey with panoramic views of the city, Rangitoto and other islands.

Most sailing's are met at Matiatia Bay by buses, shuttles and taxi's. The bus service has two main routes covering the most populated areas of the island.

A vehicle ferry, which also takes foot passengers, makes several sailing's daily from Half Moon Bay, Pakuranga. A passenger ferry between Auckland and Coromandel also makes regular stops at Waiheke.

Local air services provide scheduled and charter flights to Auckland and other Gulf islands.
